Believe it or not we have already started preparations for next year's marching band season. Ordinarily this would have been done a week or so before spring break, but with all of the changes coming in our district I wanted to make sure students had this information sooner rather than later. All of the information that was passed out and discussed in class can be found on the high school marching band here.
8th Grade Members With the realignment of our district we now have the ability to have 8th grade musicians join the high school marching band as full time members, rather than part time pit members. However, the one stipulation is that 8th grade students must be members of the junior high band (what is known as the advanced band right now) in addition to the high school band. The high school counselors are aware of this stipulation and will work to help students get their schedules in order when the time comes. Information All 8-12 grade students, and select 7th grade students, received a packet of information in class today. That packet contained a spring/summer rehearsal schedule, performance schedule, band fees worksheet, and medical release. Commitment Form To enroll in marching band students need to fill out the commitment form (posted on Google Classroom and at the webpage above) and turn in a $50 deposit towards their fees. This will guarantee them a spot in the show. The form and a $50 deposit are due by spring break. 2018 Competition Show Next year's show is entitled "Words", featuring original music by Randall Standridge. The show is similar to last year's highly successful "Time Machine". You can find a YouTube video of this show on the webpage listed above. Check it out, I know the students and I are all very excited for the possibilities it brings! If you have any questions about marching band, particularly if you are a new member or the parent of a new member, please do not hesitate to contact me. I am so excited to begin the journey that will take us back to Lucas Oil Stadium in November, and I can't wait to get started with you!!! This Saturday from 10:00-3:00 the Whitko Band will be hosting a Winter Carnival & Chili Cookoff at Whitko Middle School. All high school students are expected to help run the event, any other student or parent who would like to help are welcome and encouraged to do so! One of the biggest ways you can help is by spreading the word. The band has a Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram page, and if you use these social media platforms please like/follow these accounts and share, retweet, repost, and forward any of our advertisements to your friends. That will really help spread the word! Game tickets are $1 each, $10 for 12, and $20 for 25. Chili is $1 to taste and $5 for unlimited chili and voting rights.
