During the month of May we will be highlighting the members of our senior class, spotlighting one senior each week. This week is Malarie Puterbaugh.
Malarie started band in 6th grade. She had wanted to play the flute but after trying out some other instruments she said she wanted to play the tuba. Her mom talked her down a few sizes and she finally agreed to the trombone. Her arms weren’t long enough yet to reach 6th position but she made it work!
Malarie has been involved in the marching band since the 8th grade when she fielded props and ran sound for their show “Call Me”.
She has been a member of marching band, concert band, and pep band all 4 years of high school and a jazz band member for three years. She played in the pit orchestra for 2 of the high school musicals.
Malarie has been involved in band activities apart from Whitko attending several clinics, joining the Elkhart Municipal Band for Tuba Christmas the past few years, marching in the Indiana All-Star Band at the 500 Festival Parade in 2017, and becoming a member of Legends Drum and Bugle Corps for their 2018 season.
After graduation Malarie will be touring the Eastern United States for the summer performing and competing, playing marching baritone as a member of Legends Drum and Bugle Corps.
This fall, Malarie will attend Purdue University to study Psychological Science and also plans to become a member of Purdue All-American Marching Band.
Band and especially marching band has been a big part of Malarie’s life. She is looking forward to this summer and beyond!
